Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn everything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
He began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
